Promag H is the go-to series for the food and beverage and life-sciences sectors.

Endress+Hauser Canada Ltd. has upgraded its Proline Promag H 300/500 series of electromagnetic flowmeters with new innovations, making them even more advantageous to hygienic operations in the food-processing and life-science sectors. The manufacturer has endowed these instruments with extra capability, so users get added process integrity and maximum uptime.

The standard in flowmeters in these industrial markets, the Promag H series offers temperature, flow, and conductivity measurement in one device.

Now with Heartbeat Technology

Trusted by customers for its versatility and rugged design, the Proline Promag H series resists the rigours of Cleaning In Place (CIP) cycles, like elevated temperatures of aggressive chemicals and strong vibration from the turbulent flows necessary for thorough cleaning. Endress+Hauser has added the following innovations in sensor and transmitter technology to these instruments:

  • Heartbeat Technology. This buildup index enables monitoring of potentially disruptive buildup in the measuring tube, so preventive maintenance can be scheduled when convenient and optimum CIP intervals determined.
  • Heartbeat Technology Sensor Integrity (HBSI). This parameter detects potential changes or defects in the flowmeter’s magnetic system.
  • Conductivity calibration. An additional parameter for improving process efficiency. This option serves for process control, product or water monitoring, and leak detection under various conductivities.

The third upgrade shows whether a line is empty or full, plus the type and concentration of liquid in the pipe. The instrument’s triple-measurement capability informs the user of the concentration and temperature of the cleaning agent and its velocity, as well as when conductivity reaches an appropriately low level at which the final rinse cycle has flushed all cleaning agents from the line.

Using the conductivity calibration and the internal PT1000 resistance temperature detector is an excellent way to have a redundant measurement to the devices already installed in the user’s CIP system. In addition, Heartbeat Technology creates a buildup index that graphs the presence and progression of buildup over months, allowing real-time assessment of when maintenance is necessary. Finally, the HBSI parameter monitors changes in the electromagnetic field strength of the flowmeter, detecting and quantifying potential magnetic interference and mechanical defects in the magnetic system.
